| Sir John Lubbock introduced the Bank Holidays Act 1871 with 4 dates designated. He was a cricket enthusiast & said that bank employees should get the chance to participate in and attend matches when they were scheduled, so most dates coincide with cricket playing season. Dates changed in 1965. |
